How iron travels through your body

Three short stories to see why you can feel drained with « normal » bloodwork.

    Scenario 1 · All good
    Iron travels quietly
You eat lentils or a steak. Iron clears customs in the gut, hops into the bloodstream, and a little taxi (transferrin) drops it off in your cells to make energy. The surplus is stored in the liver like reserves in the attic (ferritin). A liver hormone, hepcidin, plays stationmaster and decides how much iron can travel.
