SCFAs (Short-chain fatty acids)
Metabolites produced by the fermentation of dietary fibre by gut bacteria. The main ones are butyrate, propionate and acetate. They regulate regulatory T lymphocytes (Tregs), reduce systemic inflammation and positively influence skin health. A diet rich in diverse fibres stimulates their production.
