APP (Amyloid Precursor Protein)

Precursor of amyloid, a transmembrane protein. Its cleavage can follow two pathways : the amyloidogenic pathway (produces pathological Aβ via BACE1) or the non-amyloidogenic pathway (produces protective sAPPα). BDNF stimulates α-secretase, favoring the protective pathway.
