    Cutibacterium acnes

Anaerobic commensal bacterium of the hair follicle, formerly called Propionibacterium acnes. It plays a key role in acne pathophysiology by colonising obstructed sebaceous follicles and triggering an inflammatory response. Its proliferation is promoted by excess sebum (linked to IGF-1 and androgens) and by cutaneous dysbiosis.
