Atopic dermatitis

Chronic inflammatory skin disease characterised by a weakened skin barrier, overactivated Th2 immune response and colonisation by Staphylococcus aureus. Linked to intestinal and cutaneous dysbiosis. Oral probiotics (notably Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG) have shown a reduction in SCORAD score in randomised controlled trials. Synonym: atopic eczema.
