EGCG (Epigallocatechin gallate)

Main polyphenol of green tea (Camellia sinensis), from the catechin family. It inhibits matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) that degrade skin collagen, reduces inflammation via NF-kB and activates the Nrf2 pathway. Studies available mainly in vitro and on animal models, but human trials confirm photoprotective and anti-ageing effects.
