EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid)
Long-chain omega-3 fatty acid, precursor of major anti-inflammatory mediators. Present directly in oily fish and microalgae oils. It can be produced from plant-based ALA, but this conversion depends entirely on the activity of the FADS1 and FADS2 enzymes.
