Faecalibacterium prausnitzii

Anti-inflammatory commensal bacterium of the gut microbiome, producer of short-chain fatty acids (notably butyrate). Its reduction is associated with several inflammatory diseases including psoriasis, Crohn's disease and atopic dermatitis. It feeds on prebiotic fibres. Its presence in sufficient quantity is a marker of good intestinal and skin health.
