    Metabolic flexibility

    The body's ability to efficiently switch between energy substrates, notably from carbohydrates to lipids, depending on nutritional conditions and effort. A central marker of metabolic health and one of the most strongly correlated with healthy longevity. Lost in insulin resistance and restored by exercise, fasting and a moderate-glycaemic-load diet.
