Liver
Central organ of metabolism, weighing approximately 1.5 kg in adults. The liver fulfils over 500 documented functions: carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism, plasma protein synthesis, bile production, glycogen and fat-soluble vitamin storage, and detoxification of endogenous (hormones, bilirubin) and exogenous (drugs, toxins, alcohol) substances. Its functional state directly influences skin health via its role in eliminating sex hormones and toxins.
