Glucuronidation
Phase II hepatic detoxification reaction in which fat-soluble molecules (oestrogens, bilirubin, medications) are conjugated with glucuronic acid to become water-soluble and be eliminated. When this pathway is slowed (deficiency in magnesium, B6, indole-3-carbinol), oestrogens recirculate and can stimulate sebaceous glands, promoting hormonal acne.
