Glutathione

The body's main intracellular antioxidant, synthesised in the liver from three amino acids (cysteine, glutamate, glycine). Cofactor of glutathione peroxidase (GPx), it neutralises free radicals and lipid peroxides in skin membranes. Its precursor N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is used in functional medicine. Its level decreases with age and under the effect of oxidative stress.
