GPx (Glutathione peroxidase)

Selenium-dependent antioxidant enzyme that neutralises hydrogen peroxides and lipid peroxides in cell membranes. It protects keratinocytes and liver cells from oxidative stress. Its activity depends directly on the body's selenium and glutathione status. A selenium deficiency reduces GPx activity, increasing skin vulnerability to UV rays and inflammation.
