Lysosome
Small single-membrane cellular vesicle filled with digestive enzymes active in acidic conditions (pH ≈ 4.5). Often called the cell's stomach: it breaks down internal waste delivered by autophagy and external material taken in by endocytosis. Its dysfunction is implicated in several storage diseases and in cellular ageing.
