Cutaneous microbiome
Community of micro-organisms (bacteria, fungi, viruses) living on the skin surface. It plays a protective role against pathogens and participates in cutaneous immune regulation. Its composition is influenced by birth mode, lifestyle, cosmetics and diet. In atopic dermatitis, it is characterised by a dominance of Staphylococcus aureus and reduced microbial diversity.
