    Skin (organ)

The largest organ of the human body, representing approximately 2 m² of surface area and 15% of body weight. The skin is composed of three superimposed layers: the epidermis (outer layer), dermis (intermediate layer) and hypodermis (deep fatty layer). It fulfils multiple vital functions: barrier against pathogens, thermal regulation, vitamin D synthesis, sensory perception, elimination of certain metabolic waste and communication with the immune system. Its condition often reflects the body's internal balance.
