Hepatic Phase I and Phase II

Two sequential stages of hepatic detoxification. Phase I (cytochromes P450) oxidises xenobiotics into often more reactive metabolites. Phase II conjugates them (glucuronidation, sulphation, methylation, glutathione) to make them water-soluble and excretable.
