Prolactin

Hormone secreted by the pituitary gland, mainly known for its role in lactation. Elevated prolactin (hyperprolactinaemia) outside pregnancy and breastfeeding can disrupt the menstrual cycle, shorten the luteal phase and worsen premenstrual syndrome. Chaste tree mainly acts by reducing its secretion via D2 dopaminergic receptors.
