Cellular senescence

State in which a cell permanently stops dividing while remaining metabolically active. Senescent cells adopt a pro-inflammatory secretory profile (SASP) that contributes to the ageing of surrounding tissues. Their accumulation is one of the hallmarks of biological ageing.
