Wild yam (Dioscorea villosa)

Plant containing diosgenin, a steroidal precursor. Contrary to widespread belief, the human body does not convert diosgenin into progesterone: this transformation requires chemical synthesis in a laboratory. Wild yam creams therefore do not contain bioavailable progesterone.
