Zinc
Trace element cofactor of more than 300 enzymes, essential to the skin, thyroid and mitochondria.
Skin : it regulates sebum production via inhibition of 5-alpha-reductase (reducing testosterone/DHT conversion), supports wound healing and maintains cutaneous immune function. The outer layer of skin contains 5 times more zinc than the underlying layer. Its deficiency is associated with acne, poorly healing wounds and weakened skin.
Thyroid : cofactor of enzymes involved in thyroid metabolism. A zinc deficiency can reduce T3 production and impair the sensitivity of receptors to thyroid hormones.
Mitobiome : involved in cellular antioxidant defence and proper mitochondrial function through several metalloenzymes.
Sources: oysters, pumpkin seeds, red meat, legumes.
