    Observational study

Type of epidemiological study in which the researcher observes and measures phenomena without intervening or modifying participant behaviours. Unlike randomised clinical trials, observational studies cannot establish causal relationships, only associations. They are essential for studying dietary exposures over long periods in large populations. Main limitations are confounding bias, recall bias and difficulty controlling all influencing factors.
