Genotype
The set of genetic variants (alleles) a person carries on one or more genes. In functional medicine, knowing certain genotypes (APOE, MTHFR, DIO2, FADS1/FADS2, FUT2…) helps individualise nutrition and micronutrition: the same food, vitamin or supplement can have very different effects depending on the inherited variant. Genotype is not fate: it is a map of the terrain, to be combined with lifestyle. In France, only a medical doctor is authorised to prescribe a genetic test.
