GABA-A receptors

Membrane receptors of the central nervous system that respond to GABA, the main inhibitory neurotransmitter. Their activation produces a calming and sedative effect. Targets of benzodiazepines (synthetic anxiolytics), alcohol, and several medicinal plants including valerian, passionflower and hops.
