    Heart coherence

10 minutes to regulate stress by breathing 6 times per minute

Sit comfortably, feet flat, back relaxed. Follow the bead: it rises as you inhale through the nose, drops as you slowly exhale through the mouth. No effort required, just let the rhythm settle in.

    What is heart coherence?

Heart coherence is a breathing technique validated by neurocardiology research. By breathing at a precise rhythm - 6 cycles per minute, i.e. 5 seconds inhale and 5 seconds exhale - you synchronize your breath with the natural variability of your heart rate. This phenomenon, called cardiorespiratory resonance, directly stimulates the vagus nerve, conductor of the parasympathetic nervous system (the body's natural stress brake).

    Documented benefits

    • Measurable drop in cortisol (stress hormone) after a single session, lasting around 4 hours.
    • Regulation of blood pressure and improved heart-rate variability (HRV), a key marker of cardiovascular health and longevity.
    • Eased anxiety, better sleep onset, fewer mental ruminations.
    • Immune and anti-inflammatory support via vagus nerve stimulation.
    • Sharper focus and mental clarity, especially helpful before a cognitive or emotional challenge.

    The 3 - 6 - 5 ritual

The reference practice: 3 times a day, 6 breaths per minute, for 5 minutes. This 10-minute session offers a deeper effect, ideal at end of day or under strong tension. Consistency matters more than duration: 5 daily minutes beat 30 minutes once a week.

Heart coherence is a wellness practice. It does not replace medical advice, especially in case of cardiac or respiratory conditions.
